Boy Scout Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA)

Just got some more information on the setup of where the troop will be.  They will be at the Old Trails Gun Club range on Beeson Road.  The have a dining shelter where we can set up at.  There is no power at this location, however, they do have a gas generator.  I know some of you have done Field Day and I think this would be a way to show off how we can still communicate without electricity.  If this puts a bind into the works, please let me know.

Time wise, we are looking at having cub scouts from approximately 1-5pm and the boy scouts in the evening.  Yes, we will be in the valley.  I would like to see what contacts we can make from down there.

If there is anyone that is able to help with this, please let me know.  I am working on other activities to keep the scouts busy while not on the air.  Let's try to get a commitment from anyone in the club that is able to help out by Sunday, August 31st.

Thanks again!

JOTA is an annual event in which Boy and Girl Scouts and Guides from all over the world speak to each other by means of Amateur (ham) Radio. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared via radio waves. Since 1958 when the first Jamboree-on-the-Air was held, millions of Scouts have met each other through this event.

We hope to have a couple of HF stations operating so that Scouts can talk to other Scouts all over the world.  Ideally a few people could bring their "Field Day" setup, and help out for the day. I'm sure Troop 16 would feed us some of their good camp chow for dinner!

Ham Radio Thwarts Zombie Apocalypse

 Yes,

Ham Radio Thwarts Zombie Apocalypse!

TORONTOApril 9, 2013 /CNW/ - The threat of a zombie pandemic, commonly known as a zombie apocalypse, is ever present in today's world of widespread genetic engineering and frequent international travel. Fortunately, Amateur Radio can help minimize the impact of such a catastrophe and as such, the Central Toronto Amateur Radio Club (aka CenTor) will be offering an Amateur Radio licensing course starting May 1, 2013.
